Aretha Franklin

Aretha Franklin (* 25. März 1942 in Memphis, Tennessee) ist eine US-amerikanische Soul-Sängerin und Pianistin. Aufgewachsen in Detroit, Michigan, sang sie mit ihren beiden Schwestern Carolyn und Erma in der Kirche ihres Vater Cecil L. Franklin. Durch ihren Vater, einem bekannten Baptistenprediger in den USA, kommt sie früh mit der Musik in Berührung. Größen wie Mahalia Jackson, Sam Cooke, Clara Ward und die Ward Sisters besuchen die Gottesdienste. Von James Cleveland erhält sie Gesangs- und Klavierunterricht.

1956 nimmt sie ihre erste LP auf.
1987 wird sie als erste Frau in die Rock and Roll Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
1990 gewinnt sie den Grammy Living Legends Award.
2002 sterben ihre beiden Schwestern an Krebs.
2005 gründete sie ihr eigenes Plattenlabel, „Aretha Records“.
